phase7 performing.arts is a Berlin-based artist collective of theatre and media artists, musicians, researchers, and digital specialists, led by director and media artist Sven Sören Beyer. The tension between human and machine is a catalyst for the artistic discourse of the group, resulting in performative productions and installations with a digital affinity that at the time of their creation seem utopian and prove to be lastingly progressive in the international art context. One of phase7’s core themes is the exploration of the autonomization of artificial intelligence and its virtual and real impact on modern society and the self. They question what happens when machine learning algorithms interact with humans as a creative process and partner, making experimentation an essential part of their artistic process and genesis. The collective’s work has been showcased globally, often at major international events. They have directed multiple Opening Ceremonies for the European Capitals of Culture, including Plovdiv in Bulgaria in 2019 and Bodø in Norway in 2024. In 2023, Sven Sören Beyer served as the creative director for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, which was the largest sports event in Germany since 1972. They have also created large-scale shows for events like the anniversaries of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the 75th anniversary of German Democracy.
